A Bespoke Programme

We want every child at Broomwood to fulfil his or her potential and to achieve results beyond what they dreamed possible. Our staff specialise in identifying and promoting those who would benefit from additional care, whether it be through scholarship and enrichment preparation or learning support. Above all, we want to build confident youngsters with a healthy level of self-esteem. Children at Broomwood are encouraged to have a growth mindset and are not afraid of taking academic risks or trying something new.

The Enrichment Programme

‘Curious and intelligent children’

We want all our children at Broomwood to develop a love of learning and to continually challenge themselves. We encourage pupils to maintain a curiosity about the world around them and to follow their passions and interests. These concepts form the foundations of our curriculum at every year group level.

We run internal masterclasses and enrichment excursions for all our subjects. We also compete against other schools nationally and invite guest speakers in to share their experiences and expertise. We have excellent libraries at each school site and encourage our children to read and read and read!

Recent excursions included: Epsom Public Speaking Competition, Dukes Education Debating Festival, Bradfield College’s Science Challenge Day, The Broomwood Cricket Festival at Wellington, and the Winton Cup at Stowe.

Academic Enrichment

Our academic enrichment programme has been designed to reach all pupils regardless of their academic attainment. Every Broomwood child is given the chance to deepen their learning further in certain favoured subjects or across the curriculum. For senior pupils, each subject hosts a masterclass on a weekly basis which pupils in Year 8 – and Year 7 in the Summer Term – can opt to attend.

Scholarships

‘Your child has talent – we will find it!’

As your child moves up the school, we begin to identify those who have the potential to engage in our highly successful scholarship programmes. We understand what senior schools are looking for and the standards required for scholarships across the board, including academic, music, sport, art, DT and drama.

Pupils preparing for scholarship will be extended and stretched in their lessons and extra-curricular activities. Additional sessions are also introduced to prepare for individual assessments. We encourage all candidates from Broomwood to participate in activities to develop higher order thinking skills, such as reasoning, enquiry, creative thinking, evaluation, information processing and problem solving.

Broomwood pupils have been extremely successful in gaining scholarship to many top schools, including:
Alleyn’s, Benenden, Bradfield, Brighton College, Charterhouse, Cranleigh, Dulwich, Epsom, Emanuel, JAGS, Harrow, Marlborough, Radley, Royal Russell, Rugby, Sherborne, Streatham and Clapham, Trinity, Wellington and Whitgift.

Learning Support

‘A whole school approach’

Whether children are scoring top marks or struggling with particular subjects, many will find learning support beneficial at some point during their school career. Teachers at Broomwood work in collaboration with the Learning Support Department to ensure that each pupil gets appropriate help. We always keep parents fully informed of any decisions about a child’s education.

Boys and Girls are taught how to recognise their unique learning style and are given effective strategies to help in the classroom. Some may receive personal lessons with a member of our team or from visiting therapists in speech or other specialisms. If we feel a child would benefit from being assessed by an outside professional, we work with parents to make recommendations and to determine the next steps.
